Honda Recalls 1.7 Million Cars due to Steering Rack Issue

A major recall by Honda was announced for 1,693,199 million cars that might have a steering rack problem. 

The Honda recall includes the Acura Integra and Integra Type S, as well as the Honda CR-V, HR-V, and the full Civic series.

The model years that are impacted are 2023–2025, and the base Civic's 2022 model year is also included.

Documents from the NHTSA state that an incorrectly manufactured steering gearbox worm wheel is the cause of the issue.

The NHTSA also claims that excessive friction and varying torque during steering are caused by an excessively high worm gear spring preload.

The recall documents indicate warning indicators such as an unusual loudness or "sticky" feeling when moving the wheel.

Affected owners will be asked to set up  with their local Honda dealer, they will inspect the car and replace the worm gear spring with an improved part
